What Do I Need and Where Do I Get It? If this is your child's first year in baseball or softball, you might be wondering what your child has to have verses what he or she should or could have. What size bat or glove will my child need? Where is the best place to buy these items? The list of questions could go on and on. Fortunately, we have coaches and parents who have been involved in these sports for 5, 10, 15 and even 20 years or more! There is a lot of equipment out there. Some of it you must have, and other items are just nice to have. For example, some kids use batting gloves, but they are not required. The position your child is playing might determine what type of glove you buy as well. If you are unsure, ask before you buy. You will have time to purchase your child's equipement before the games begin, so please take your time and feel comfortable about the items you plan to purchase. Ask your child's coach or ask another parent. Glove size is important. The weight and length of the bat is important. Don't be shy about asking questions at your child's first practice. Other parents may have bats that your child can try out at practice to see if it suits him or her. This is an article which might also give you a starting point in selecting a bat: http://www.atwateryouthbaseball.com/AtwaterYouthBaseballBatBuyersGuide.html Once you know what you want, where do you get it? There are several sports stores in Montgomery and Prattville to choose from, and you can even purchase equipment from online stores and ebay. Parents who have children who have outgrown bats or gloves might also be of some help. Check out the "For Sale" tab under "Sports Equipment" to see if another parent has an item for sale or trade. Finally, if you still have questions, you can post them on this site under "Discussion Board".
